Sukabumi’s Culinary
Sukabumi is a large place consisting of 27
cities/districts. Each place has their own characteristics, like language,
traditional clothes, costum home, until their typical food. The typical food in
west Java is in variety. Each place in West Java has their own typical food,
such as Garut has the famous culinary ‘Dodol’ ; Bandung with the best culinary
‘Peyeum Bandung’ ; Cianjur has ‘Tauco’ as the culinary’s icon. What about
Sukabumi? Does Sukabumi have a typical food? Of course, Sukabumi has many
culinary. Here, there are three famous culinary in Sukabumi.
The first most famous culinary is Mochi. Which people
do not know about this icon culinary of Sukabumi? A chewy little cake that came
from Japan. This cake made from three main ingredients and five other
ingredients. The three ingredients are rice flour, glutinous rice flour, and
tapioca flour. While the other five ingredients are sugar, water, salt, butter
and food coloring.
In Sukabumi, there are many shop who sell mochi, such
as Mochi Lampion, Mochi Kaswari Bakat Jaya, Mochi Arjuna and many more. Time by
time, they found some innovation, they produce it in variety of flavors, such
as red beans, cheese, chocolate, strawberry, durian, oreo, and many more.
The second famous culinary is Bandros. This is one of
a legend food in Sukabumi but it still exist until now. Bandros is a cake that
has sweet taste, it made of rice flour, tapioca flour, salt, grated coconut,
coconut milk and butter and this cake is served with sugar topping.
Everyone can find this cake in many places in West
Java easily. In Sukabumi there are many cadger who sell it, for the example
like Bandros Ata. Bandros Ata is a legend shop, they have been existing since
1973 by Mbah Ata. Bandros Ata or the other bandros cadger produce it without
change any ingredients or add some innovation. So, bandros that produced in
1973 is same with the bandros in this era.
The last famous culinary is Renginang. Renginang is a
cracker made of rice glutinous, water, salt, garlic and shrimp paste. This food
has salty taste, so it will be suitable one for accompany you when you are
watching movie or in relaxing time.
Although it has rarely found in Sukabumi City, Renginang
was one of a characteristic food from West Java. We can still find the people
who has been producing it in some of places like in Jampang. This product was
quite famous, so people know Renginang Jampang is a good product.
These food are the three famous culinaries in
Sukabumi, and there are stil many culinaries
that I do not mention here, but you can find it out by yourself. One
thing that we have to remember as people of Sukabumi, that these are our
culture and our riches that we must protect as the next generation.
